Paul Newman, one of America's greatest actors, had never won an Oscar for performance in a film. It was not until 1987, at the end of his illustrious career, that he finally received a statuette for The Color of Money by Scorsese.
But he won't be in the room to receive the long-awaited trophy.
A few days later, when asked about his absence from the ceremony by the Associated Press, Paul Newman declared:
“It's like chasing after a pretty woman for 80 years. When she finally offers herself to you, you tell her, "I'm so sorry, but I'm tired." »
"It's like chasing a beautiful woman for 80 years. Finally, she relents, and you say, 'I'm terribly sorry. I'm tired.'"
