First of all, a few things.
- Not everyone even gets to 90, so getting there itself is an accomplishment.
- You won’t be able to even get to 90 if you aren’t pretty healthy in your 50s, 60s,70s and 80s.
- A lot of it is genetic.
All that being said, the same choices that will GET you to 90…
…are the choices that will make it likely that you are healthy when do.
Everyone has a story of a great grandfather who drank and smoked his way to 186 years old, but for most people, you’re going to want to drink in moderation (or not at all), and say goodbye to cigarettes completely.
Your diet should be anti-inflammatory, comprised mostly of vegetables. Avoid processed food. Avoid excess meats-a few small portions a day are fine. Fish is better. Throw in a bit of fruit as well.
Keep a somewhat low bodyweight-an 18–25BMI will outlast 30–35BMI most of the time.
Do moderate exercise-nothing extreme, but light aerobic exercise and maybe some weights.
Keep at least a few friends-being friendless is one of the most lethal things that can happen to someone. An almost 27 percent of millennials said they had “no close friends”
So, have a good old fashioned sensible chuckle every now and again.
Also, be a woman. They live longer.
