There’s a second chance in Hollywood

Huey G

Quite a few actors can say that in 2023, the year of true comebacks, filled with glorious and heartwarming stories.

Ke Huy Quan

Ke Huy Quan reunites with Harrison Ford, some 39 years later.

Quan’s career began at age 12 with a starring role opposite Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom, followed by another in The Goonies. However, right after that, the child actor put his Hollywood dreams on hold for decades due to the paucity of Asian roles. Quan gave up acting. He went back to school to study film at the University of Southern California and spent most of his adult life working behind the camera.

Nearly 40 years later, Quan comes back with Everything Everywhere All at Once and plays the part that took a lifetime to find. He has been critically acclaimed for his amazing performance as Waymond Wang, the goofy husband to Michelle Yeoh’s multiverse-straddling laundromat owner.

Quan credits 2018's Crazy Rich Asians, starring his recent costar Michelle Yeoh, as his inspiration to get back in the game.

And now, Quan has won the Academy Award for best supporting actor. A true comeback story, as good as it gets!

Brenden Fraser

Brendan Fraser reunited with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson backstage at the Oscar’s in March 2023.

“Very cool full circle moment here with my long time buddy Brendan Fraser and his sons,” Johnson wrote in the Instagram post. “My very first film of my Hollywood career was The Mummy Returns, which Brendan was the star. Lots of critics and cynics betting against me at that time, but Brendan welcomed me with open arms and was very supportive.”

During the peak of his success, being one of the highest-paid actors of the time for blockbusters like The MummyGeorge of the Jungle and Bedazzled, Fraser completely disappeared from the movie scene. Over the years, he suffered backstage injuries, underwent multiple surgeries, stood up against alleged sexual assault, and went through a messy divorce.

In 2022, Fraser came back. He received critical acclaim for his transformative role in The Whale, his first lead role in a major film for 12 years, and revived a career that was once so bright.

And now, he’s won the best actor Oscar for this role in 2023. The Oscar winning has definitely made Brendan Fraser’s comeback official.
