My Favorite TV Series In Early 60s

I’ve got a RARE one for you: The Travels of Jamie McPheeters (ABC TV, 1 season 1963–64, United States). The show starred a young Kurt Russell, about age 12 in the series, who plays the title character, a boy traveling West on a steamboat with his widowed father in search of future work and opportunity. The father, played by Dan O’Herlihy, was a gambler and ‘ne’er do well’ and Jamie, the curious son left to his own devices while his father is gambling aboard the steamboat, is exploring one night and accidently falls overboard in the pilot episode. The series consisted of young Jamie, who was able to swim ashore but no one else on the boat saw him fall overboard, now has varied adventures in the West while he searches to re-unite with his father. It was my favorite show at the time as I was beginning to tire of cartoons in favor of more interesting shows.

As the above picture indicates, a younger Charles Bronson was a regular on the show as well (played in 13 of the 26 show episodes.) Again, the show lasted only ONE season, although a couple of episodes were cobbled together into a feature-length movie (I think it was mostly a TV movie) called Guns of Diablo (1964) with Bronson billed as the star.
