What is a typical breakfast in Italy? Do Italians usually drink orange juice or just coffee?

This answer regards what happens in southern Italy, in general.

A typical breakfast in an Italian household is not exactly what you want to replicate. Mostly in a rush people have milk and biscuits. Adults may add a splash of coffee to the milk. The biscuits are supermarket bought, industrial products with poetic names such as pan di stelle (star bread) or gocciole (little drops -of chocolate).

The picture misses the sound of screaming children and arguing parents. In winter time their might be fresh orange juice, especially down in the south where they grow.

Having a cornetto and a cappuccino standing at the bar is pretty typical too. Most bars provide fresh orange juice at outrageous prices.

On holiday one might sit down and have brioche con granita.

The orange juice is quite out of place in summer time
