What are the best anti-aging foods to eat after the age of 50?

Profile photo for Sam Arora
  • Take all following white stuff out of your food, white rice, white sugar, and white flour, introduce brown rice, try your best throw white sugar out, or use brown sugar/honey/these are all sugars but may have a bit of less damage. Review using Stevia with your GP, and I find it very good. (BTW, at the age of 20, I cut down sugar use to almost zero. In the last 50 years, I never bought even one gram of white sugar or any other form of Sugar. And I did not miss it; beginning years were hard, but later on, I had no use for it. Once in a while, I use sweeteners here and there, but that is the extent of my sugar use.
  • Take out all big sugary stuff; being a diabetic type 2 is a killer; controlling and reduce chances to be one, do your best to stay away from this silent killer.
  • Seek, guidance, from a qualified diabetic educator. These days every quack is an expert. Get your fasting sugar checked; a lot of people have developed but do not know.
  • Cut down your calorific intake, in other words, eat moderate, control your portion intake.
  • Scientists are not sure about the fat, as they were finding new things, their stand changes. Until they are convinced, use natural fats, my favorite is Butter/Clarified butter/Olive oil/ Grape Seed Oil/ Flaxseed oil. Try your best to stay away from hydrogenated fats that means all solidified fats. BTW: Butter/Clarified Butter/Ghee from butterfat/are all loaded with Vitamin A and High in Vitamin E, both these Vitamins are vital one for eyesight and the other for beautiful skin.

In Olden Times, our grandmothers in India massaged the babies with it. I clearly remember until we left India in the early 70 s, there were no artificial cosmetics, hardly any. And the girls had lush black/silky/and long healthy hair/beautiful skin/absolutely zero cosmetics.

They used Ambla Oil and for topical use also, melted butter/or Ghee, clarified butter/and Turmeric paste (Now it scientifically is proven that it has excellent medicinal and other benefits). Turmeric is an essential ingredient for making Indian curry.

When your inside is clean, clean thoughts, nobody abused the body and no other pills/drugs because, in those days, it was extremely pure living. And the shine, the luster, the glow, showed on the faces of girls of that time. Well, that time has long gone. Now those countries are trying to catch on in this race too.

  • Cut down starch/sugary stuff/flours/baked goods such cakes, pastries, basically stuff with a lot of artificial creams and decoration/too much-fried stuff/
  • Treat yourself with high-end ice cream once in a while.
  • Consume high and very high cocoa chocolate. Dark chocolate, with maybe 90 percent cocoa, is the best.
  • Make a good habit of eating white non-sugared yogurt, maybe with a little fruit every day or more often.
  • Increase your fiber intake slowly but surely, with green leafy vegetables and low sugar, such as citrus fruits.
  • Cut down red meat/say hello to more seafood/fish oil through oily fish, one of the best Salmon fish if you could find in your area.
  • Of course, drink fluids in case plain water is not your idea to drink, use some lemon/lemon juice/non-sugar flavor crystals/moderate use of zero/diet colas/soft drinks/

I find cranberry juice is a Godsend a gift to humans; regular use will keep your urinary tract infection-free forever (I believe).

Medical and Dental:

  • Yearly detailed medical check, men for prostate and woman for breast cancer.
  • A yearly check by a dentist, including X-Rays and once a year, Hygienist's teeth clean up and fluoride treatment.

Nonfood things but equally essential to make your food more effective:

  • Anything which causes you to stress to take out of your life.
  • It is better to be alone than in a bad company.
  • It is better to be single than in a stressful relationship.
  • Make friendship with yourself, and start your new beginning from just now.
  • Reduce your load of worldly things.
  • Try to be spiritual, communicate with your beliefs, or any religion you believe.
  • Always always always think positive, yesterday is genuinely gone and tomorrow may never come, this moment is the most critical. Use it or lose it.
  • While eating, you may alone, but you should never be lonely. Yes, life is exceptional could be very beautiful by yourself also.
  • Think it this way: Develop a lot of hobbies, you are never old sure outside body is mortal, inside you get younger every day with a tremendous amount of knowledge, experience interactions. You see people going back to school very late in their lives to complete that degree/diploma. People are running marathons in very late in life, and the point is you are never old.
  • Think it this way: We are in all line to go from this mortal world, while in front making the best of it.
  • Think it this way: All relationships have an expiry date, and the friends/relative/who so ever is gone, his/her expiry date came, and that relationship are over. Nothing is forever, including marriage.
  • Think it this way: There are two kinds of beauty, outside and inside. Out is fading for all of us, but inside beauty increasing by every second of the day.
  • Think it this way: Lord Christ cured ten lepers, how many came back to say thanks: Just one. When Lord of Lords, had only ten percent return, we human should expect zero or less.
  • Think it this way: Tomorrow will be better than today, it works this way if the night is very dark/windy/snowy/next morning is usually full of Sunshine, calm and beautiful.
  • Think it this way: Try to fast beginning with one meal and slowly increase to a full day. This way, you are already about 15 percent one day in seven, ahead in weight reduction goal. And giving relief to your internal organs.
  • Think it this way: Yes, I was worried about my shoes, however, it is a small worry, as compared to the one who cannot even walk or does not have feet/or legs.
  • Think it this way: God/Nature created me with some purpose, sure there are a lot more talented people, but He must have given me something also. Let me find my niche and true calling.
  • Stress and aging go side by side, hand in hand, reduce stress as much as possible.
  • The moderate use of alcohol, a bit more red wine in moderation, and trying to stay happy/content/at the eating time, alone or in the company of others, also helps.
  • Stop expecting anything from anyone, expectations are the leading root cause of staying unhappy, and it is the chain reaction of all other evils.
  • It is a known fact when you are angry, either you lose appetite or do not enjoy food. Try your best to have a pleasant, peaceful environment around you when eating.
  • Make sure your bowel movement is regular and stress-free, elimination of waste is essential for staying young and beautiful.
  • My expectation from myself: In case I wake up in the morning by myself, it is good to start, I am already better than who did not wake up today. Now I clean myself, eat breakfast myself, and get going. I am a big winner already because a lot of people would not be able to do this morning. God loves me, and that is why He gave another beautiful day. Let us do some meaningful things today. And remind yourself, tomorrow will be much better than today.

Happiness comes through doing tiny things:

  • Happiness comes from doing small things, including eating Durian fruit on the roadside along with the local fruit stand.
  • Visiting a flea market.
  • Buy a small trinket.
  • Getting a portrait done at a studio.
  • Looking through the old pictures.
  • Watching a movie, and the one from your youth again and again. And remind yourself, I was beautiful/handsome in my youth. And I am still beautiful/handsome in my old age. Age is just a number, and besides I competition is my age group.
  • Listening to happy and positive songs.
  • Never think about sad songs; they will make you more depressed. I tried, and I stayed sad for several days.
  • Never watch a movie with a sad ending; I never will do that.
  • Watch comedy shows and stay young.
  • And always remind yourself, tomorrow is going to be even better

There is a tremendous amount of love/caring and sharing needed in the world. One body is a transmitter and the other receiver.

Here is one example of a total stranger getting bonded; the language of love may not have any spoken language.

My wife and her newfound monkey friends: A baby monkey felt as cozy in the human lap as he was in his mother’s lap. Motherly love is universal, regardless of species. This monkey did not take a minute to smell motherhood and jumped in her lap. He did not care about me, even though I offered him Banana.

Food shared from the heart blesses both the giver and the taker.

A few other things you may consider:

Think it this way: Even a dead skin(leather) goods be it a purse/jacket, all it needs care/first clean it with gentle soap and then buff it with a dab of baby oil/beewax/

The same way live skin needs gentle cleaning with soap and then to polish it with some oil/cream.

My wife has been using three products, it is not an endorsement, but I like to give you some logic/reasoning using these three products.

I have worked a good portion of my life in the Canadian dairy/food and flavor industry.

I met and worked with a lot of Chemists; one such friend had worked in the soap/detergent industry.

Dove Soap:

He knew most of the formulae of most of the soaps in the market. However, he recommended out of all Dove, since then and it had been a lot of years. We used it, and it is no recommendation, but we had some advice from a friend who knew the industry.

I have worked in the dairy/food/flavor industry for 30 years and home renovation/remodeling/general contracting/property management. Now it will close to fifty years in total — 30 part-time with a regular job, and now over fifteen full time.

I have been using these two creams for several years, and I am thrilled with this brand and its products.

This cream is made in Japan called Q10, our Japanese friend, highly recommends it, for skin repair and maintenance. My wife started using it, and she has no intention of giving up anytime soon.

Sure it is, costly, but it keeps her happy.

Aloe Vera:

My wife and I have used Aloe Vera pulp for many years; in Asia, it is considered to wonder plant.

The pulp from the leaves is thought to very good for the skin; we make a juice of this pulp or eat it as is.

Give some thoughts to this also.

The Japanese people are a huge fan of Hot Water Spring baths, and they believe these baths are very healthy.

We also believe since it contains a shallow level of sulfur, it could be beneficial for the skin.

My wife is a huge fan of these Hot Spring Baths, and she avails this opportunity wherever she gets a chance.

Think about it:

These Hot Springs Baths are available near Kyoto, Arima.

A few more things to keep in mind:

As we age, most of us gain weight, some more and some less, but most of us cannot avoid this phenomenon.

Keep this attitude do your best to keep your weight down: However, it is essential to keep a positive view; we are not going to be 16 with all the lotions and potions. But we could try to look healthy/happy/content 90 or 100 years old.

Think it this way:

The power of positive thinking and beliefs about aging:

Negative Beliefs About Aging Predict Alzheimer’s Disease in the Yale-led Study

Newly published research led by the Yale School of Public Health demonstrates that individuals who hold negative beliefs about aging are more likely to have brain changes associated with Alzheimer’s disease. http://ow.ly/VAiHB

A few last thoughts:

Based on your lifestyle, budget, living alone, I suggest a few things.

  • I have learned, it is not only the foods you eat, but it is also equally important is the state of mind. Also, you eat alone, environment/ambiance/
  • I also believe, and some other people also swear by it, spirituality and prayers help. And some experts claim having a pet also helps.
  • Some people with limited and exceptionally on budget, live very long/healthy/beautiful life/ inside and outside.

And

  • Some people with all the wealth are miserable and die young,
  • The point I am making good/excellent food is only one factor. There are so many other factors to control also to make life fully content.

Think it this way:

  • Everything is mortal, and we all are line, to go from here, we all have an expiry date, this counting starts as soon as we come out of the womb.

Well, it comes it comes,

  • Do not bring the sadness of the ultimate truth of death and dying in today’s happiness.

Finally, think about it this way:

A few last thoughts:

Thing it this way:

Very long life, it is not a blessing: All your friends/relatives/everyone you grew up with, everything is gone. What is the use to prolong, that life?

I hope it helps.
