It has advantages. Look at expats and foreign retirees. They settle or immigrate here because of the low cost of living, and they even aspire to own lands. But being foreigners, they are forbidden to own lands. So, being a non-Filipino citizen is a disadvantage for them in our country, which they chose for retirement.
One way to gain an advantage is to work overseas or as a remote worker for foreign professionals or companies to earn high salaries. I did both. I was an OFW for several years until the pandemic forced my last foreign company to send me home. However, I continued working for the company as a remote worker. So, I am now based here in our country, working remotely, and earning USD.
If you want to be a remote worker, first, you should create accounts at PayPal, Payoneer, and Wise. You should also have at least a local bank account from one of the major banks, Maya, GCash, and Google Pay accounts. Also, create accounts at some cryptocurrency wallets like Coins, BYBIT, Token Pocket, Metamask, etc., as you will encounter foreign clients who prefer paying using cryptos. Almost all of those money and crypto wallets have no maintaining balance except the bank accounts.
For remote working, you may get them on Linkedin. Search for your preferred jobs and add the word REMOTE. You will see the different remote jobs being offered by foreign companies and professionals. Just try and try as applying via Linkedin is free and all you need to do is send your resume or CV until someone notices and hires you. You can also get online jobs at online work platforms like Upwork and Guru.
Filipinos with extensive corporate and overseas experience should learn to work remotely. We should always use our advantages of being capable of communicating in English and our reputation in the Middle East as reliable foreign workers. Working remotely will enable you to live in your provinces as long as there is reliable power and internet signal. You would also help reduce the population of Metro Manila by working remotely in the provinces.
