Twelve years later, in 1972, he opened the bottle just once to add a bit more water
—and then sealed it again permanently. Amazingly, this closed ecosystem has continued to thrive for over 60 years!

But how is that even possible?
The secret lies in nature's perfect balance. During the day, the plant performs photosynthesis, producing oxygen
. At night, it respires and releases carbon dioxide—keeping the air cycle going. Water is recycled through transpiration and condensation, while fallen leaves
are broken down by microbes in the soil, releasing nutrients the plant can use again.
This closed terrarium is like a miniature Earth
. It’s a powerful reminder that nature can sustain itself beautifully without human interference
. Even in a sealed space, life finds a way to adapt, recycle, and flourish
.
