Why is it important to know the disaster profile of the Philippines?
I think it would be important to know the disaster profile of any place. Now the disaster profile of the Philippines might be more important to the Philippines than to say, someone in Africa, but understanding any disaster profile is good for planning.
In the Philippines, you would want to know what to plan for as a person who wants to protect you and yours, and as a government, since the supposed role of government is to protect the people. Both the Pilipino and the government can stockpile goods in safe places and create safe havens for people before the crisis. You wouldn’t put a large stockpile and shelter in a forest that is prone to burning, or a stockpile and shelter on a beach that experiences tsunamis. You might want to invest in good roads so the people can get out of the danger areas.
For people from other countries, you might want to know the disaster profile of the Philippines so you can send aid. First, it is the humanitarian thing to do, and second, you may need them to send you aid in the future when you have a disaster. People from other countries might also be able to learn from the mistakes that are made during a disaster that could have been planned for.
Sadly, disaster relief is way down on the priority list, after giving away money for re-elections. The time to prepare for a disaster is BEFORE the disaster, but that takes money spent for what is perceived might never happen. Knowing the disaster profile of the Philippines, you know it is not if, but when.
