To survive, the hermit fishes and collects wood to use as firewood. "It's a nice life. Everyone would like to do it but they don't," he told the BBC.

Ken Smith, 74, decided to live like this after being beaten by a gang, suffered a brain hemorrhage and spent 23 days without consciousness.

"They said I would never recover, that I would never speak again. They said I would never walk again, but I did. That's when I decided that I would never live on anyone's terms but mine," he said in the documentary about your life.

The place that Smith chose to live is a 2 hour walk from the nearest road and in addition to fishing he also grows some vegetables and collects fruit in the woods.
