The Afghan government fell because the people of Afghanistan did not particularly love the government, and the main reason it remained in power was the presence of American military forces. As soon as those moved out, Taliban regrouped and took over control of the country.
America was forced to hastily evacuate about 120,000 people from the country, using military aircraft, civilian planes and other means…
It was absolute chaos. People were in complete fear of their lives, not knowing what to expect from the Taliban and remembering its initial bloody rule in the 1990s.
Some people ran up to the airplanes as they were leaving Kabul, desperately hanging on to the steely outside in hopes of being carried to safety… these men would freeze to their deaths once the airplane hit high altitudes, falling to their deaths.
The reason the Afghan government fell as quickly as it did? The American government had given up on trying to prop up the regime in Kabul. They moved out, and the remaining Afghan army was unable, and perhaps unwilling, to fight against the Taliban, who were still their own countrymen. A decade or more of fighting one’s own flesh and blood for power and control will turn most men off of war forever…
Likewise, once Assad’s regime was abandoned by Iran and Russia, he was toast. A puppet government cannot survive without the forces backing it being in the picture. They leav, the puppet disappears. Even the dolls from Sesame Street only talk when a puppeteer’s hand is inside the muppet… puppeteer leaves, the show’s over.
