Is there nothing when you die?

There is an entire world after you die.

Right here, on earth. There is a vast universe out there, too. You just won’t be physically in it. Whether or not you are elsewhere, whether or not your spirit or soul lives on in another realm, I do not know. Nobody knows…

There are beaches in this world, that will still be strolled on. Seas that people will swim in. There is a sun shining on those who live in this world, good food to be eaten, good times to be had… only it won’t be you, strolling that beach, swimming in that ocean or eating that food. You have to prepare yourself for the possibility that maybe, this really is all there is. And that after we close our eyes one final time, they may never open again, anywhere.

And life will go on, sure. And our children and grandchildren and friends and siblings will carry on. I saw my paternal grandmother die two months after I had my first daughter — she held that baby and died shortly after and there wasn’t “nothing” after she died; that baby is now a big girl, about to go to high school.
