Do piranhas only attack you if you mess with them or their eggs?

I'm not so sure about that next answer. I had a tank with what ended up being 10 red belly pirahnas, sent away for them and hot a bunch in a plastic bag delivered to the house.

They were about the size of a quarter when I got them and I used to hand feed them frozen brine shrimp at the top of the tank. They grew fairly quick to a size equivalent to the tank. They were about the size of my hand.

I put a bubble bar under the stones across the center of the tank and they used to love that jetting from one side of the tank to the other. They were cool as hell.

Now, they are / were very intelligent fish and they definitely knew and recognized me when I was in the room. I never had a problem with them coming at me while I was servicing the tank, but then I wasn't like sticking my arm down in there fucking around with them either.

They were some seriously aggressive and ferocious fish and they definitely moved as a pack. For instance I'd come in with a bag of feeder gold fish of a hundred or so.

They'd know it was time to eat and I believe their eyesight was excellent seeing everything outside of the tank perfectly. But when I'd dump the feeders in the tank the activity was a blur they were that fast and it would take them less than a minute and all there would be was a million hold scales settling down from the top to the bottom.

Hey man, them fuckers are no joke. Maybe pirahnas in captivity are more aggressive than those in the wild because these guys didn't play.

I'd go fishing and bring some larger fish home and it was the same deal. So, these ones here I'd have to say would attack you no matter what. I do wonder if the large open water doesn't make a difference.
