Will Donald Trump capitulate to Putin just like Pétain did with Hitler?

Trump rolled out the red carpet for Putin, shook his hand, and now is trying to maul Zelenskyy and the European Union to capitulate to Russia, in exchange to Putin promising not to kill more people.

This won’t happen — Ukraine won’t give Putin what he demands — and Trump is already trying to frame his betrayal as “Zelenskyy doesn’t want peace”.

In reality, the U.S. took an obligation to defend Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty when they strong-armed Ukraine into giving up nukes in 1994.

Not even mentioning it now means only 1 thing: whatever the U.S. is promising to do to help Ukraine if Putin attacks again is just as worthless, since the U.S. president now wants to reward war criminal Putin for his attack on Ukraine with more land and more people.

Moreover, Trump is angry with Zelenskyy not agreeing to secede land to Russia — the land that Putin can’t get militarily and which he will use, no doubt, to launch a new invasion against Ukraine, as soon as he can. The land where hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians live — Trump nonchalantly suggests giving them to Putin to rule over and use as soldiers for future invasions (Putin is already using the Ukrainians from occupied territories, sending them to fight against other Ukrainians). And then Putin claims that it’s “a civil war” and says that foreign countries shouldn’t interfere.

Russia uses torture to make people do what they don’t want to do: beatings, electric shocks, and much more (which I can’t spell here, but it’s every ancient torture you ever heard about and more). In Russian military units at the front, if soldiers refuse to go at a “meat attack” on enemy positions, they are thrown into a pit with no clothes, water or food for days. The other soldiers are requested to pee on them. Sometimes the commanders have “gladiator fights”: they tell 2 soldiers in the pit that only 1 of them can get out, so they have 5 minutes to fight each other to death, or both will be shot. There are also other things I can’t spell out here. (But they are listed in the UN report on torture used by the Russian army, you can find it.)

In WW2, many nations surrendered to Hitler.

Hitler then detained and killed Jews in these countries; detained and killed these who resisted.

Putin’s army detains, tortures, and kills Ukrainian civilians who are against the Russian invasion of Ukraine, also does it with anyone who was in the army or has family members in the army, who speaks Ukrainian (for speaking Ukrainian in public), teachers of Ukrainian language and history, journalists, public officials, police, and others.

And just like in WW2, this won’t stop until the aggressor regime is defeated.

Trump’s attempt to capitulate to Russia’s dictator Putin can only bring WW3.

Russia must be defeated (or unable to continue the war) for a durable peace to be possible.
