Why after pooping I feel like there is more left but when I push nothing comes out?

When fecal material inside the colon stimulates a peristaltic wave you get the feeling like you must defecate.

You have no control over this because it is an autonomic response of the smooth muscle within the colon walls.

What you do have conscious control over is your anal sphincter. After allowing the anal sphincter to relax, the peristaltic wave will force the fecal material through the anus and sphincter.

If after you defecate, the wave of peristalsis continues, although no more fecal material is in the colon, you will have the sensation that more is in there that must come out. It is nothing more than the contraction of the smooth muscle within the colon walls and the inside of the walls are actually touching each other which gives you this feeling.

Give it a few seconds to minutes and the feeling will pass as the smooth muscle then begins to relax.
