Get more exercise. The exercise might make you tired, so lie down afterwards. Then, later in the day, get another 10 minutes of exercise
When we get older, our body doesn’t make muscles the way it used to. It needs to be reminded every few days that you are using your muscles and want to keep them. I’m 78 and work in a grocery store. When I take a whole week off from work, I can tell that I’m a little bit deconditioned when I get back to work. I regain my strength in a week or two.
Maybe today, you can’t even walk for 10 minutes straight. So walk for five minutes and rest. In an hour or two, walk for another five minutes. When you are sitting down, start thinking of a reason to stand up. Maybe you want a drink of water. Maybe you want to put your water glass into the dishwasher. If you get up and walk for 30 seconds, that will help maintain your muscular strength.
Obviously, if you are an adult like me, you should not start running half marathons without giving yourself a long time to slowly build strength. You should not push yourself to run or walk extra fast. Just go outside a couple times a day and walk at a comfortable pace for 10 minutes. Pick up the pace gradually as you get stronger.
Sometimes I “sprint“ for a short distance. I am a little bit out of breath for a few minutes after I do that, but then my breathing returns to normal.
If you are more out of breath than that, you absolutely should see a doctor. If you feel chest pain or throat pain like I do, you should either stop right away or take a rest before you continue.
Most people, even very old people, can benefit from exercise in 30 second or 60 second spurts. If they do this many times a day, they will be able to exercise more and longer without alarming symptoms.
