Obviously this isn't a clear cut "stay or go" situation. If you truly believe in God, you have to have a discussion with Him and determine what you want to do.
By way of background for others who are reading this answer, the Church teaches that homosexuality is not a sin in and of itself, but rather the acting on it is the sin. We all have some desires, compulsions, and tendencies that are opposed to the nature of God. The Book of Mormon terms these as the "natural man". The Bible teaches that these weaknesses are a symptom of the human condition rather than a stumbling block and that He can help us overcome them:
"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."
1 Corinthians 10:13, KJV, emphasis added
We don't all have the same weaknesses, but they are common among us. Some have a predisposition toward depression, some toward mental illness, some toward unrighteous anger, some toward kleptomania, and the list goes on and on. God didn't give us these attributes but He is powerful enough to help us rise above them.
This is obviously a very personal topic and just be aware that you are getting an answer from a stranger on the Internet. I don't pretend to know the intricacies of your own personal history or struggle. I do know though that whatever you decide, it needs to be a personal choice and one made with full knowledge of the ramifications no matter which choice is made. The Book of Revelation tells us that if we made a choice, we must do so fully.
"I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth."
Revelation 3:15–16, KJV
Whatever you decide, make sure it's based on what you really want. Don't decide to choose any path based on what you think you should do or what others think. The best motto to have is "to thine own self be true". You just need to figure out what your own self means.
Hope that helps!
I believe in the Mormon church, but I am bisexual and want to act on it. Should I leave the church and try to be righteous on my own, or stay in the church?
