Members of the LGBTQ+ community, what are your thoughts on religion?

I walk a pagan path.

I have nothing against any religion, but I do actively and loudly speak out against churches that push hatred, intolerance and sex negative indoctrination.

I strongly believe that teaching children to be ashamed of their bodies is child abuse.

I strongly believe that teaching children that sex is shameful is child abuse.

I see the hatred and intolerance pushed by many churches and the damage it causes. I see the harm caused by churches by push sex negative agenda.

There are many counties in Africa that are dealing with HIV epidemics. Many of these countries were getting a handle on the spread of HIV by teaching and promoting safer sex practices, until Christian missionaries showed up and pushed their sex negative agenda. This agenda included discrediting condom use, among other things. Not surprisingly, the rate of STI transmission, including HIV has skyrocketed.

Religion should bring its followers peace and strength, not shame and guilt. Many churches teach that the body is shameful and that sex is shameful. They instill a sense of guilt in their followers for having completely natural desires. If course, the only way to alleviate this guilt is for the followers to turn to the very people that instilled the guilt to begin with. One hell of a racket, if you ask me.
