Let's cover exactly what you've stated right there:
Leviticus Example: "it says that any man who sleeps with another man is an abomination"
Unspecified Example: "it also says to love your neighbor as yourself"
I'm also pretty sure there's something about a log and a splinter somewhere in the book, as well as other stuff about not putting yourself in the position of their god and judging others, as it is only their god's place to judge others.
So, I don't believe that it was intended for followers of Christianity to treat homosexuals poorly, but simply to dissuade them from being homosexual (implying it's a choice, which it's not, but I digress). In general, the Bible seems to cover a great deal of "keep yourself in line instead of breaking formation to complain about that very problem", which is a great system in theory.
In practice, it resulted in a lot of preaching without practicing and being passive-aggressive involving someone praying for someone else, which I'm fairly certain wasn't the point. I like to quote Faithful America's motto, since they seem to understand and handle it best:
"Love Thy Neighbor. No Exceptions."
And that's my thoughts on the matter.
