Some of the most intimidating men in the world had surprisingly high-pitched voices. Mike Tyson is hardly alone in this. What to make of Reinhard Heydrich, for example? Heydrich was a top Nazi, Himmler’s right-hand man and known as “The Butcher of Prague”. He stood 6′3″ and was a well-built chap, known for fighting numerous duels by sword in his youth, once almost killing an opponent…
That’s him on the photo above, standing next to double-chinned little Himmler. Heydrich, for all his fearsome feats and his terrible reputation, Heydrich, the man who chased his assassins down on foot after being shot and fired at them even as he was mortally wounded… a terrifying presence. But he had a relatively high-pitched, feminine voice. Now would you tell that to his face, would you laugh at him, make fun of his voice? Somehow, I doubt that. Because he would flay you alive and turn your skin in a lampshade, then turn the lamp on while forcing your skinless face to admire the craftsmanship…
Sure, Mike Tyson had a high-pitched voice. So did Abraham Lincoln, who won 400+ matches as a wrestler in his youth. As did the Butcher of Prague. None of these are men I would have liked to be on the bad side of, had I been around them. Some men have high voices and some have deep voices. It says very little of their ability to hurt you.
