From China to Ireland
Last September I came to Dublin. The weather in Ireland, you know, is quite similar to the UK, which means not good…
One day my Chinese friend and I went to the beach close to our school. Technically, it's not a beach with sand but we saw some people including elders and teenagers were swimming in the sea!! That was totally a huge shock, since the temperature was just around 15°c!! I already wore the long sleeves shirt and jacket, couldn't image how cold the water is! It was not the end!!! Then there was a toddler playing with the cold water without wearing shoes!! Definitely a double shock, Chinese parents will never ever let their kid to do that! Also I suppose only a few few few adults would swim in the sea at that temperature. From the notion of traditional Chinese medicine, you should always keep your feet warm!! So for kids, it needs to be double warm!!
I read some books about Chinese medicine which emphases “Yang Sheng" a kind of health care. There are plenty of things you need to be “careful” in your daily life. I used to believe most of them, but now I feel does it only work for Chinese people? Apart from the culture difference, maybe we are “protected” so well from the moment that we were born. (literally before that!)
This kind of shock about temperature or the cold feeling also happened to me when I was in South Korea… Girls can wear skirts or short pants without leggings to keep warm in winter, (at least below 10°c) which is also common in Japan~ Recently, some young Chinese girls try to do that as well. Anyhow it's impossible for me~~~
By the way, it's interesting to see so many shocks around the world. Haha~
