That is a very interesting question.
I only recently started to tackle this problem when my legs became tired from walking and standing up for too long.
I learned that at 77, I was in danger of getting sarcopenia, or even having it already and don’t know about it. Sarcopenia is the atrophy of the muscles that give you strength. This applies to the arms and legs.
I could see that this was a problem that wouldn’t go away. I go to the gym three times a week, but even that did not stop my legs from feeling tired. Until one day I saw a video on this subject, and I have taken on the exercises that they recommend.
The best exercise for strengthening the legs is the sit/stand exercise. This involves sitting on the edge of a chair and standing up without holding on to anything. You need to lean forward and push yourself up. Do this ten times, then stop.
I thought this would be a very good exercise to do, so I put one of my dining chairs in the center of the room, so that I would see it every time I past it by. Now I do this exercise all the time.
Another good exercise is standing on your heels, then your toes, and rocking back and forth slowly.
Weights are the best method for strengthening arm muscles. Start small and work your way up. I use 5-lb weights, which are enough for me.
Practice these things before sarcopenia really sets in, as it is hard to reverse it.
