Jim Morrison had his lucid moments and there were plenty of times when he behaved like any other normal human being. During that time, he would be interesting and sort of fun to be around. You’d think he was a pretty intelligent guy with a good sense of humor.
On one occasion, at a party in someone’s L.A. apartment, Jim Morrison was moving around when he saw David Crosby. Crosby had dropped acid beforehand and was sitting around with his sunglasses on, completely mesmerized. Morrison walked up to Crosby and took Crosby’s sunglasses off.
“You can’t hide in there,” he told Crosby. Of course, Crosby immediately freaked out.
Other times, Jim Morrison was something else again. He was someone you didn’t want to fuck with because of his unpredictability. He wasn’t very good-natured and was easily enraged. This was Morrison without alcohol. With alcohol, it was even worse.
After graduating from UCLA, Jim Morrison lived on a rooftop in Venice Beach in view of the Pacific and subsisted on Peanut Butter, Baked Beans and LSD.
Too Bad. He had real problems growing up with family and other stuff. I don’t think he ever was really able to connect with his father or mother. There was other stuff that went wrong, too. He was arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct at a Florida State football game, but that was just the beginning. He died nine years later.
If you’re like me, I believe that life is God’s gift to us, something to be cherished. I’d be surprised if Jim Morrison felt the same way.
