The Philippines is the 3rd largest economy in South East Asia as stated from statistics and from others who answer your repeated questions. We have 25% of poor people which consist 25M people, perhaps greater than your poor population. We also have 75% middle classed and upper classed citizens which consist 75M people, perhaps even more than the populaion of your middle-classed or rich citizens. Our country is very modernized, least agricultural, being competitive in services around the world, especially in office industry locally, with growing mechanical industries such as factories. As you can see, we have a very developed office industry. Our country is not rich I agree, just in the past. We are a middle classed country as of the present with visible poor citizens but with a lot more middle classed and rich people. Our economy is one of the fastest growing in South East Asia. We might have the worst infrastructure but we had the first modernized infrastructures in the whole South East Asia or even in Asia (since we were second to Japan back then). They were just mismanaged due to overpopulation, foul mentalities of people, and incompetent government. It’s mismanagement, not underdevelopment. We had massive richness and power before in the past than Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia, especially when we were under Spain who united the whole Philippines and America who almost made Philippines one of their states. We just “recently” lost them due to government incompetency and citizens’ illogical mindset. Overpopulation also made it worse and the unambitious decisions of the government and citizens. But we are gaining it back because of our fast economic growth and underconstruction and overhaul of infrastructures.
In a very few years, we will be an Upper Middle Income country together with Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. Of course they will still have more GDP with Indonesia slightly higher because we still have do more to catch up, but it’s still under the same category so it doesn’t matter and GDP is not only the measure of economical development. Statistics say its aimable in more or less 2022 because of our under-construction infrastructures, decreasing poverty and unemployment rate, and removal of informal settlers. We just need $500 more to be an Upper Middle Income country and I suppose UPI is not poor for you or else other Upper Middle Income countries will be offended too if you call classified it as poor or perhaps you better change your dictionary. Just be happy that we are slowly catching up and getting the glory and richness that were taken from us.
They say Philippines is a country pretending to be poor even if not poor. You can see articles about this in Google. Compared to America and EU, of course we are poorer.
I suppose the OP is just a jealous folk or a troll. I hope we have answered your question and educated you enough about this matter. I hope you stop trolling, just do something more productive, or even help your country develop more. I don’t care if yours is more developed, all I care is we develop our country towards a better future. If you want to know the truth, visit the Philippines or at least use Google and stop asking repeatedly which just make you a nonsense and incompetent troll.
Just because you see slum which only consist less than 10% of Metro Manila does not mean our country is the poorest. Just because you see a beggar does not mean our country is the poorest. I saw many beggars in America, does that mean America is poor as well? Just because you see a Filipina domestic helper does not mean our country is the poorest. We still have more professional Filipinos, especially hotel managers, engineers, sailors and nurses from all over the world. I once talked to a French Man and he said that Filipinos are more known to be sailors and seamen there. We are popularly known as foreign Nurses or even doctors in the Uk, US, Germany, and Canada. 25% of nurses in the whole world are Filipinos. We are also popularly known as foreign English teachers in Thailand & Korea; Engineers and skilled workers in Saudi Arabia, Norway, & other middle eastern countries; Mixed professions in Singapore, and yeah, domestic helpers in Hong Kong but DH is still a decent job so what? We are one of the highest paid immigrants in America. Some Singaporeans even dislike us because they think we are stealing their professional jobs, perhaps we are just good and skillful enough to be hired in their country. I’m not saying we are better because of course we are not and no one is better than the other.
Just because we have a brain drain in our country does not mean we are the poorest. We have good education that’s why we have many professionals abroad. We are English speakers that’s why even the poor Filipinas can work as domestic helpers and earn high salary abroad. Perhaps it’s a government’s fault that we’re having brain drain. We actually have opportunities here, many jobs availabilities. It’s just that Filipino professionals just want to aim more since they are not just contented with enough. They want more and more. Philippine cost of living is cheap and OFWs are earning a lot abroad. They send money to the Philippines and they make their family’s lifestyle more comfortable. That’s why some some Singaporeans are bitter because we work in their country, just paying the high cost of living for ourselves alone, then sending a lot of money to our families in the Philippines which has a cheap cost of living. A luxury in Singapore is cheaper in the Philippines whilst Singaporean families have to pay the high cost of living for all of their family members in Singapore with just a bit higher salary than Filipino professionals there. I don’t generalize these so don’t get offended. I have Singaporean friends and I love them. It’s just to show how wise we are in despite of the corruption happening in our country and to change the mindset of those some bitter Singaporeans. We are just not helping our economy but their economy as well. If they stay in the Philippines, they can still earn enough but cannot do luxury and professional Filipinos love shopping, consumering, and luxuries. So as you can see our opportunities locally are neither rich nor poor. Domestic helpers at least still make a decent and clean decision in improving their lives in despite of poverty instead of just begging, stealing, scamming, etc.
However, most Filipinos, especially the low middle classed people, are illogical and unbusiness minded. They cannot see the worth of investments, stocks, businesses, etc.
Money can make you rich if you know how to use it right. If not, then regardless of how much I give you, you’ll just lose it and become poorer in the end not because of underdevelopment but because of mismanagement. That’s what I see in most unambitious Filipinos and the incompetent government. We have the money but they don’t know how to use it properly.
But things are improving now. Educated Millenials are having a lot better mentalities and perspectives. I hope they turn to be good leaders in the future and aim our goal to be a first world country “again” in 2040 or earlier than that. I hope my country gets back its former glory in the past or even a lot more glorious than that.
Stop trolling please, just accept the fact that the Philippines is not the poorest or even poor in terms of average economy and citizens and compared to almost half of the countries in the world. We are ranked 110+ in terms of GDP per capita and the world has more or less 200 coutries including territories. We are just very slightly below the middle or half of the no. of registered countries and territories in terms of GDP per capita ranking. GDP per capita alone does not define the whole development of a nation.
We hope we have enlightened you. Cheers!
