The doctor has told me if I don't stop drinking, I'll die. I love drinking so much. What should I do? Is no Bacardi Breezers really worth an extra 3 years of life? Is that really LIVING?
Your doctor has told you continued drinking will bring about death, meaning that before you die, you will experience end-stage diseases caused by alcohol abuse.
Let's consider what LIVING will be like when you develop alcoholic cirrhosis and alcohol-related dementia.
As your liver function declines, your skin will turn a shade of orange similar to that induced by chemical tanning agents. Unfortunately, the whites of your eyes will have turned yellow so people won't be fooled when you claim to have a great tan.
The bilirubin build-up that has given your skin and eyes their glow will also be causing terrible itching. Since your liver isn't working well, doctors will be reluctant to prescribe medication to make the itching stop. Unable to resist the itch, you'll scratch yourself raw.
Your rock-hard liver will cause your blood pressure to increase, especially in the portal vein that connects your liver to your esophagus. As a result, you will develop varicose veins in your esophagus. Because the esophageal tissues are fragile, swallowing puts you at risk for a tear. How will you know if that happens? From the projectile vomiting of blood that will ensue.
Without a liver to help regulate the chemistry of your body, your abdomen will ache from the extreme distension of ascites. So much for your boyish figure.
All those Bacardi Breezers you couldn't LIVE without will have contributed to the rotting of your brain. Because your frontal lobes are damaged, you have no inhibitions, and no concern for the consequences of your actions. The obnoxious behaviour that results causes everyone you ever loved to withdraw from you or completely avoid you. You can't remember much anymore; even words escape you so you scream in incoherent rages of frustration. The nerves in your arms and legs are damaged, leaving your limbs feeling numb, and this, combined with the loss of balance brought on by your pickled cerebellum, makes it next to impossible for you to dress yourself or walk.
Make whatever choice you want, but understand the consequences of your decision.
