The largest crocodile ever recorded was a saltwater crocodile named Lolong, who was captured in the Philippines in 2011. Lolong measured an astonishing 20 feet 3 inches (6.17 meters) in length and weighed around 2,370 pounds (1,075 kilograms). His incredible size made him a significant attraction and a subject of fascination for both scientists and the public alike.
Saltwater crocodiles, or Crocodylus porosus, are known for their impressive size and are the largest living reptiles on Earth. They can be found in coastal regions from Southeast Asia to Australia. While Lolong holds the record, there are other large specimens still alive today. For example, Cassius Clay, another saltwater crocodile residing in Australia, is recognized as one of the largest living crocodiles, measuring about 17 feet (5.1 meters) long.
These magnificent creatures can grow to substantial sizes under ideal conditions, with some individuals potentially reaching lengths of over 23 feet (7 meters). However, such sizes are exceedingly rare, and most adult saltwater crocodiles typically range between 10 to 16 feet (3 to 5 meters).
