It depends, mostly on two things.
- how big are you?
- how frequent are your rest days?
If you already weigh several hundred pounds, then no, you won’t get bigger. In fact, you’ll probably get smaller.
If your rest days are more frequent then your work days, then no, you won’t get bigger. You’ll stay exactly the same size because your body will not interpret your new activity level as requiring new muscle mass.
If you want to get bigger, then you need to:
- work your body more than it is currently capable of working. This communicates to your body what kind of body you need it to become.
- provide your body with the nutrients (including proteins) required to build a body capable of doing that much work.
- give your body enough rest time to actual build that bigger body.
- don’t give your body so much rest time that it forgets that you actually need a bigger body.
Also, remember that your body only builds the muscles that your workout uses. In the case of pushups…

Everything else will stay exactly the same. If you want to build more, you’ll need a more well-rounded workout. Nevertheless, pushups are a great start to developing a healthy workout habit.
