An 18-year-old Indian lad named Gukesh Dommaraju just beat Chinese chess master Ding Liren. It was a historical moment because Mr. Dommaraju is so young, and because he’s Indian. Ding Liren, it should be said, took the defeat in stride…
But the Russian Chess Federation did not. They threw a hissy fit and released a statement, in which they expressed a belief that Ding Liren “lost on purpose”….
Imagine being such a racist bastard that you cannot wrap your head around a lowly Indian defeating a great Chinese chess master, so you invent a story about the Chinese fellow losing on purpose.[1]
Now the Russians demand for the match to be “investigated” by authorities and the tournament organizers, because Ding Liren’s hand was too good prior to losing and they believe he deliberately made a mistake in order to throw the match… The “friendship without limits” has now tainted the world of chess, too. Disgusting.
The very definition of being a sore loser? Getting angry when your guy doesn’t even make the finals, and then accuse the actual winner of cheating because you cannot accept the fact that he won fair and square.
