Rosalia Lombardo, The Mummy of a Little Girl Who Blinked. Victim of the 1920 Spanish Flu Virus
Rosalia Lambardo is the mummy of a beautiful little girl, she lives in Italy. Her body was preserved on the orders of her own father.
Rosalia Lombardo is the most perfect and intact mummy ever found in history. She died at the age of 2 from Spanish flu and lung infection.
Her father was devastated by his daughter's death. He was not willing to accept the fact that his daughter had left him forever.
Rosalia's father, Mario, decided to preserve his daughter's body. Mario asked for help from Alfredo
Salafia , an expert in embalming at that time.
He wanted the little girl to always be intact so that she would not feel far from her daughter. It turns out that in the present day, this mummy is the most preserved and perfect ever. She is like a little girl who is sleeping and never rots.
Alfredo did the preservation in a slightly extreme way. He removed all of Rosalia's internal organs so that her body cavity would remain dry. Alfredo also injected zinc salts, alcohol, glycerin, and salicylic acid into Rosalia's body.
Rosalia was then placed in a coffin with a glass lid on top. Rosalia's mummy looks very well preserved until now, she looks exactly like a girl who is fast asleep.
Currently, Rosalia Lombardo is kept in the Capushin Catacombs in Palermo in a crypt in Southern Italy.
Rosalia is the most intact and beautiful mummy ever found in the history of archaeology.
Because of her beauty, Rosalia's mummy is often nicknamed " Sleeping Beauty ". Unlike Sleeping Beauty in the Disney story who will wake up when she gets her first kiss, The Sleeping Beauty Rosalia will not wake up even if kissed by a frog prince.
According to people who have seen Rosalia's mummy in person, it is said that Rosalia's eyes, which are actually slightly closed, look like they are blinking when viewed from close range. Especially when highlighted with a flashlight, Rosalia's blue eyes look like they are staring sharply.
During her lifetime, it seems that Rosalia came from a distinguished family. Because in ancient times, people who were mummified were usually only famous people, public figures who had made contributions, or nobles.
