When my grandmother broke her hip a few months ago, she had to recover from her injury. A nurse suggested she change her diet a bit — instead of plant-based butters and vegetable oils, she was advised to cook in butter. Butter, in particular that of grass-fed cows, is apparently a lot more healthy than we give it credit for.
It should be consumed in moderation, of course, as it still contains a shitload of calories. But butter has plenty of benefits vegetable-based oils and plant-based butters do not have. It contains more vitamins and other good elements, more Omega-3 and it helps lessen inflammation of the body. And I have to say, my grandmother cooked in sunflower oil and margarine for most of her life, and once she switched to grassfed butter, her health definitely improved. She recovered from her broken hip a lot faster than expected, gained back some muscle lost when she was briefly bedridden and seems far stronger and even mentally sharper today than she was a year ago.
People have this tendency to say: “Butter is fat, high calorie, bad for you” and dismiss it as unhealthy. When really, it’s only bad for you when consumed in large quantities. Compared to vegetable oils and margarine, it’s far healthier than people give it credit for.
