I would use sua sponte instead of De motu proprio—MOTU is used for Masters of the Universe
This.
I get the feeling that Elon Musk was never quite the popular guy in his youth, that he developed a need for attention or praise that he carries into his adulthood.
That's fine, people have issues, he isn't evil. It just gets very ridiculous.
People here saying that this is a plot to get favours from the government are just wrong. Most times the truth about behaviour is plainer and more immediate than multifactorial long-term plots. Especially the part about more immediate. People don't act by “if I do this and work on that with this angle I will achieve that within a range of time”… people act by “my unconscious part of the brain craves this now, so I will tap on it”.
Elon is not a normal billionaire, he is a pop star. He is a guy that went out with Hollywood stars, who offered a boxing combat to Nicolás Maduro, who enjoys himself giving interviews, who bought Twitter to run his favourite public playground… his favourite part about being rich, the one that actually fulfills him, is the fame. We have seen TONS of billionares before, during and after him, none of them are like this.
I mean, look at his hair style, he knows his shit, he is on youth fashion's fleak
I get the feeling he tasted the political spotlight when President Milei of Argentina went to visit him, and he saw a new-found rockstar status among the right-wing for it. Then he got involved motu proprio in Venezuela's election fraud, to receive the same attention and praise. And now he just couldn't resist doing it with Trump.
If you listen to him talk to Tucker Carlson before the election, he is all concerned with whether Trump wins, BUT on the front of him becoming a pariah who backed someone without popular support. That's not the thought process of any person that believes the ideas that he has endorsed… if you believe something, you do it regardless of how many like it. It's the thought process of someone acting on his public image.
He is someone who has opposed Trump rather recently, he hasn't ever openly supported him until suddenly he did for this election. He even waited for the results in the room with Donald Trump and his team… how genuinely invested in Trump's politics can you possibly get in 3 months to do that? He was against Trump when he left office in 2020, he never defended him before 2024, and now he loves his policies THAT much.
Evidently this is not about Trump's politics but his stardom.
