I don’t think that Trump is the end of the international rules-based order. But Trump is certainly the end of the era of post-WW2 American hegemony.
The U.S. hegemony was based on the strength of the U.S. dollar, backed by the U.S. military power, international aid, strong alliances, and diverse international trade.
Trump is destroying all of these pillars at once.
The U.S. is willingly and unilaterally destroying its own global hegemony.
If one power decides to withdraw, there is vacuum. Right now, there are Russia and Europe that staked the claim.
- Russia would love to become the hegemony, but it lacks population, economic strength, and values that inspire.
- Europe has the strength, but it lacks the will.
But there is one European power that is already on the front line, fighting Russia’s expansionist ambitions. It’s Ukraine.
Ukraine is fighting to restore the global rules-based order and stands against imperial invaders, whether they are trying to steal your land or resources.
Trump surrendered the USA power to Russia, but Ukraine refuses to give up its quest for freedom and pursuit of happiness.
And that’s why the capital of the Free World is now Kyiv, not Washington.
