In Japan, before the school year begins, parents are given a list of basic rules of conduct that children must follow:
- Listen carefully when someone is talking.
- Greet others in a friendly manner and respond loudly and clearly.
- Understand that what belongs to others is not yours.
- Take off your shoes before entering and put them in the designated place.
- Sit straight in your chair.
- Always wear clean, neat, and ironed clothes.
- Keep your desk and surroundings tidy and clean.
- Go to bed early and wake up on time.
- Eat a balanced breakfast.
- Don't forget to brush your teeth.
- Never lie.
- Never leave a classmate alone.
- Help those who are in trouble.
- Don't speak badly of others.
- Learn to get along with everyone, play, and study together.
- Don't play alone; learn to play with others.
- Play outside to be stronger and enjoy nature.
- If you make mistakes, apologise sincerely.
