How would our life be like without cars?

Slower. Calmer. A lot more peaceful, and with cleaner skies.

When you have to travel by foot, or be carried on horseback or per carriage, life goes a little slower. And it is a little more beautiful. Assuming that trains still exist, one can still travel larger distances at faster speed if needed, but without great cost for the environment.

I’ve often been mesmerized by pictures and paintings of life in the 1910s and 1920s when cars very much did exist, but weren’t as widespread yet as they are today. That’s the sweet spot, for me… that, for those in need for a ride, they exist. But they aren’t necessarily widely available. Things like ambulances make perfect sense, but does everyone need to have a car? We’re always in such a great hurry, it’s rather sad to see. No one really takes time anymore to get from A to B.

Life without cars would be slower, and a lot more deliberate. We would plan out our days and weeks a little better, and to travel would be more special. Our skies would be cleaner for it, and future generations would thank us for that. And far less wildlife would get crushed by wheels needlessly, perishing by the side of the road.
