Jimmy Carter, the poorest president in the history of the United States

He is the poorest president in the history of the United States. He lived in a dilapidated house and often bought discounted items at the supermarket.

His name is Jimmy Carter, he is the only American president who does not have a mansion. After leaving the White House, he and his wife lived in a tiny house worth just $167,000. All their furniture was old items inherited from his parents, and they had to repair it almost every month. His quality of life was probably worse than most people's.

Their only income was the presidential pension, which was $217,000 a year. Carter did not use private jets. He traveled in economy class, and even in old age, he queued to board, refusing any special treatment.

He drove a used Ford Taurus for years, a car that was more than 25 years old.

So where did his money go?

He is the founder of the Carter Center and is said to have spent no less than $30 million to fight river blindness and guinea worm disease. He personally contributed to the construction of homes for low-income families and even built dozens of homes himself, continuing to do so in his old age.

He has also donated much of his speaking fees and other income to charity, contributing millions of dollars.

This former president died at his home in Georgia at around 3:40 p.m. Eastern Time on December 29, 2024. Let us pay tribute to him.
