Reinvent yourself.
If the old way of doing things does not work, change. Don’t ever be static. If casual attire doesn’t work, wear a proper suit. If your behavior or the behavior of those you associate with does not result in the outcome you had hoped for, don’t be afraid to switch it up. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
Look at the current president of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa. He reinvented himself, alright. A year or two ago, he was a terrorist, on international watch lists and wanted “dead or alive” in more countries than I can count… today, he’s meeting with the American president at the White House, all smiles as his American counterpart praises him as a “strong leader”.
No, I’m not telling you to join al-Qaida, then leave and become a proper politician — not a viable outcome for most, I understand (and yes, al-Sharaa WAS an al-Qaida operative, that’s how remarkable and insane this transformation is!) but yes… you sometimes must reinvent yourself to get things done. If the old way of doing things does not work, try a new one.
Also, don’t look back and have too many regrets. Keep moving. When the Syrian president reinvented himself, did he think? Did he analyze, and moan and complain about how he screwed himself over with his life choices? No. He just went on with it, trimmed his beard, put on a suit and pretended the new him was the man he had been all along. He faked it, until he made it. Never looked back.
