I’ve been hearing a lot of complaints from our Korean neighbors about the Paris Olympics. Are they taking things too personally, or is there a reason the French seem to be targeting Koreans? Let’s take a closer look!
- Korean Coach Denied Entry to Paris
- Confusion Over Korean Names
- Wrong Korean Flag Displayed
- Blurry Photo Controversy
- Gold Medal Fencer’s Name Misspelled
- Scorekeeping Errors in Archery
- Taekwondo Mistaken for Judo
Korean coach BaekWoong-ki of the Indian archery team couldn’t get the AD card in Paris and was unable to participate in the Olympics. He returned to Korea and announced he would not renew his contract. The team lost to the Netherlands 0-6 in the first round of the women’s archery team event.

4.Blurry Photo Controversy: South Korean Flag and Athletes Obscured in Official Social Media Post

On the day of the opening ceremony, the Olympics' official social media posted photos of national delegations on boats along the Seine River. South Korean fans noticed that only the South Korean flag was blurred, and the athletes' faces were not visible, leading to controversy and claims of discrimination in South Korea.
5.Gold Medal Fencer’s Name Misspelled in Olympics’ Instagram Post

Oh Sang-wook won the gold medal in men's individual sabre fencing by defeating Tunisia's Fares Ferzani 15-11 at the Grand Palais in Paris. The Olympics’ Instagram posted a congratulatory photo of Oh but misspelled his name as "Oh Sang-gu" instead of "Oh Sang-wook."
6.Archery Men’s Team Final Marred by Scorekeeping Errors
July 30, 2024
In the Archery Men's Team Final between Korea and France, there were numerous scorekeeping errors, including incorrect scores displayed before shots were taken and points misrecorded. Although these mistakes didn't affect the final result, they caused confusion for viewers. Additionally, during the awards ceremony, France’s silver medal flag was mistakenly raised lower than Turkey’s bronze medal flag.
7.Taekwondo Mistaken for Judo: IOC’s Instagram Mislabels Martial Arts Video
July 31, 2024
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) faced controversy after mistakenly labeling a video of children practicing Taekwondo as Judo on their official Instagram and YouTube. The video, which showed kids in Taekwondo T-shirts performing kicks, originally had the hashtag "Judo" but has since been corrected to "Taekwondo."
In conclusion, although some issues may seem questionable, it's clear that the French have been making a significant number of errors during the Paris Olympics. Is this intentional? Honestly, it’s hard to say. However, it's important to note that the criticism isn’t limited to just the Korean team’s issues. Koreans have also pointed out similar mistakes affecting other teams and events.
