Have you ever met somebody so stupid that they made you question how they survived this long?

Who will tell the chick?

One day I bumped into my cleaning lady’s daughter. A 35 year old, living with her mom. We fell talking.

She told me pretty directly that she was looking for a suitable job, and a suitable man to get married to.

This is our exact conversation word by word:

‘What kind of job are you exactly looking for?’ I asked politely, hoping I might be able to help her.
‘A nice job that pays me well.’
‘What can you work as?’
‘I don’t know; I have never worked before. I need a desk job where I can keep sitting indoors in an office. I am overweight so I do not much like to move around. It tires me.’
‘What are your qualifications?’
‘None. Am a high school dropout. Wasn’t good at studies.’
‘Have you learnt something extra, a course or something? Like computers, office keeping.’
‘No. I can’t work with computers. Don’t understand them.’
‘But you can learn them if you had to?’
‘No. I am not good with learning.’
‘Can you learn any other skill that can help you find a job? Nowadays, there are plenty of learning platforms that can teach anyone just anything.’
‘No.’ She flashed her eyes a bit fiercely. ‘I can’t learn. I don’t need to learn anything extra or additional.’

I steered away from ‘learning’.

‘Can you clean and iron?’
‘I said, I can’t move myself much. I need a comfortable job where I can keep sitting.’
‘Can you babysit?’
‘I don’t like working with kids. They are very annoying.’
‘Can you cook?’
‘I don’t like to cook. Mom cooks for both of us. And, I mean a decent office job, not like cooking, cleaning and babysitting. These jobs don’t pay good and one has to work very hard.’

I gave up.
‘Do you have any specific job in mind?’
‘There are lots of people who keep sitting in offices and don’t have to work hard at all, and earn very very well. That’s the kind of job I am looking for.’
‘They usually have skills. If you can learn some skills that might be very helpful.’
‘What skill can one have when one just has to keep sitting in an office?’
‘But when one wants to earn good money_’
‘Oh, they earn very good money. I can too. I just need to find this kind of job for myself. Like news readers on TV, weather forecaster, receptionists, hotel managers.’

I forgave her and changed the subject, delicately.
‘You have a boyfriend?’
‘I had. Right now I am single and looking for someone who I can marry.’
‘You…know someone?’
‘No. Not yet. There are some but they aren’t suitable.’ She smiled affably. I prefer to have a man who earns well, has a steady job, has his own house and doesn’t have family and children. And lives in this city. I love this city and am not prepared to leave it.’

I don’t want to sound judgemental, but probably I already am.

One second I feel sorry for her but the next second I can’t.

Even if I want to, I can’t sympathise with anyone with this attitude and this mindset.

I am ready to forgive her if she had a disability or a disease that restricted her movements, energy, learning or something, but this is not the case as confirmed by her mother. She is just a rosy eyed, hay brained, fantasising, criminally lazy chick who has no idea how the world functions. And because somehow her world is functioning for her, she thinks it always will. And probably it really will…
