What should I do if my Thailand visa is expired for a year while I am in Thailand? What consequences will I face while returning to my country?

You should surrender yourself immediately and pay the fine. There are no two ways about it.

If you are caught overstaying by Thai immigration, you might be taken to jail if you cannot pay the fine or if you have overstayed for a long time.

A fine of 500 baht per day for overstays under 90 days. Overstays of more than 90 days lead to a 20,000 baht fine and a potential 1-year ban from re-entering Thailand.

The consequences for overstaying a visa in Thailand depend on how long you've been overstaying:

• Under 90 days: You'll be fined a minimum of 500 baht per day, up to a maximum of 20,000 baht. If you pay the fine before leaving Thailand, you won't be banned from re-entering.
• Over 90 days: You'll be deported from Thailand and banned from re-entering for a period of time that depends on how long you overstayed. The ban can be up to 10 years.
• Over 1 year: You'll be banned from re-entering for 3 years.
• Over 3 years: You'll be banned from re-entering for 5 years.
• Over 5 years: You'll be banned from re-entering for 10 years.
