I'm not ashamed of being Filipino myself, but I find the behavior of some Filipinos to be embarrassing and cringeworthy:
1) Proclaiming Pinoy pride everywhere, for all the wrong reasons, no matter how irrelevant to the discussion, and even belittling other countries in the process
2) Will latch on to celebrities with even just 1% Pinoy blood and claim them as ours (cue #1 all over again)
3) Proud to be Pinoy, yet proud to be colonized/conquered/westernized, constantly seeking foreigners' approval and compliments, and claiming European DNA (I was at an event once and a governor there proudly said that the people in one of his province's towns were beautiful because they were all mixed race, implying that full-blooded natives were not beautiful)
4) Proud of our country and seas' natural beauty, yet dump garbage and plastic everywhere
5) Widespread ignorance, think winning beauty pageants and singing contests is the highest of achievements; not big fans of critical thinking
6) For some women, snagging a foreigner, especially a white foreigner, is also seen as a great achievement or like winning the lottery, and expect him to fund her entire extended family and impregnate her with white babies
7) LOUD when in groups and when playing music/karaoke, no consideration at all for the neighbors
8) Sense of entitlement, always expecting pasalubong, pakain, aid, handouts galore
9) Lack discipline; will follow the rules for a while, but break them again as soon as no one's watching
Having said all that, I still love my country and people (when they're not being embarrassing and cringeworthy). A lot of things here in PH drive me absolutely crazy, but it's home and I'd rather live here than anywhere else. I just wish Pinoys had more self-respect and self-awareness, as well as TRUE pride in ourselves, which is actually very quiet and dignified, not the loud, annoying boasting we constantly see on the Internet. The best way to get others to respect us is If we respect ourselves first.
