Michael Phelps

Icon for Extremely interesting facts

A statuesque physique, 193 cm for about 90 kg, shoulders and arms larger and longer than normal (the span of his arms exceeds 2 meters), his legs - on the other hand - relatively short compared to his size, offer less resistance with the water.

Before the advent of the "Baltimore Cannibal", short legs were not considered an advantage but, after his successes, studies have shown that short legs and a long trunk represent the ideal combination.

His feet size 48.5, are two real fins that the swimmer uses to the fullest, reaching a "foot-ankle" flexion of about 15° more than his colleagues in the pool.

After the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where a fifteen-year-old Michael won nothing, he went on to win something like 83 medals, of which 66 gold, 28 Olympic, and becoming, in Beijing 2008, the athlete with the most gold medals (8) in a single edition of the Games, confirming himself as the most successful and strongest swimmer of all time.
