I'm guessing some of these southeast Asian fruits may be in American supermarkets Asian section like “durian”.
Below: Rambutan may be familiar.
Above & bottom: Pulasan might not be. Hardier shell, sweet firm flesh.
Above: Jambu Air or water apples are crisp and juicy.
Below: Salak or snake fruit is dryer, acidic.
Below: Soursop is musky, very fibrous custard-like; taste ranges from sour to sweetish.
Above: Mata Kuching “cat's eye” is a tiny fruit with a crisp and sweet (loganberry) taste.
Below: Not a Jackfruit but a Cempedak - custard like texture as opposed to jackfruit crunch. This fruit is a wee bit harder to get at but it's sweet.
Below: Langsat is a small sour to sweet orb of fleshiness, with a significant bitter seed.
Above: striking red/white Dragon Fruit (pitaya) has a soft mushy texture,n not very sweet.
Below: Marang or Tarap is the real breadfruit! A native of Borneo this fruit is a cousin of the jackfruit and cempedak. The prickly looking armour isn't spiky like durian, and you can literally tear open the fruit. Supposed to be sweet and delicious… perhaps the only tropical fruit I haven't tried.
Those are the 'bizarre’ lot out of tropical South East Asia — many here don't see them as bizarre.
