How has the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine impacted the geopolitical dynamics of Europe and the USA?

The withdrawal of the U.S. from the leading role in the security of Europe and the move of the Trump’s administration towards friendly relations with Vladimir Putin created an instant power vacuum — which Emmanuel Macron swiftly moved in to fill.

France is in a unique position, having its own independent nuclear umbrella — thanks to the foresight of General de Gaulle.

For over 80 years, the U.S. was carefully maintaining the balance of power in Europe, to ensure that no individual country would be able to manage without the input of the United States.

Zbigniew Brzezinski, who was a National Security Advisor to Jimmy Carter, wrote a book that explains how the U.S. was managing its foreign affairs, purposefully leaving its allies in Europe and Asia semi-incapacitated, to ensure they had to rely on the U.S. for their security.

Trump threw the baby out with the dirty water — he instantly destroyed all the intangible capital that the U.S. had acquired in 79 post-war years (80 years this May), by abruptly cutting off the aid to Ukraine — in the middle of a full-scale war (!) — as well as intel sharing, which rendered the American weapon systems useless.

This cost lives to many Ukrainian soldiers on the front line and resulted in the Russians being able to attack the Ukrainian stronghold in the Kursk region, which led to Ukraine losing the town of Sudzha and being forced to evacuate their troops.

And while Trump assisted Putin to achieve the withdrawal of the Ukrainians from the Kursk region — Kursk was a massive success for Ukraine, which served its purpose of demonstrating Russia’s inability to defend its own territory and the fact that there are no red lines — Trump’s betrayal of Ukraine sent a tsunami reaction among the European allies.

By his abysmal treachery, Trump gave the Europeans both the permission and the incentive to break free from the American leash — which Europe is now mutely chewing through. Divorce is a messy affair, but when your partner is publicly cheating on you with your arch nemesis, that’s an unforgivable offense.

Viva free Europe — and glory to Ukraine!
