What do you think of the arrest of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte?

Duterte didn’t just go after drug dealers… he went after entire families. I’m talking men, women, children, even infants. Over 27,000 people died because of his War on Drugs. Police officers would go into slums and shanty towns, guns blazing. The human cost was enormous.

The collatoral damage was massive. And as there were no trials, no transparancy whatsoever, it was a convenient way to settle old scores or rid yourself of someone you had a feud with by merely accusing them of drug use or even planting evidence. No records were kept. No trials held. Thousands of people were gunned down. Including students, youth, elderly, babies… the trick was not to leave any witnesses.

A lot of innocent people died because of Duterte. And while he went after small time crooks, fentanyl continued to flow into the Philippines from China through floating labs. And he did nothing to stop this as he was very cozy with Beijing. Under his tenure, Chinese spies without Filipino passports infiltrated the government. One, Alice Guo, even successfully ran for mayor while running an ilegal casino.[1]

I am glad Rodrigo Duterte was arrested. And I hope he never sees the light of day again. Drugs are a terrible thing and I agree with being strict against drug dealers. But murdering people without due process in the thousands is inexcusable. The man has blood on his hands and deserves to rot.
